CBT gave the green signal in March
According to reports, the Finance Ministry has endorsed the 8.25% interest rate determined by the Central Board of Trustees (CBT), which is the highest decision-making authority of the EPFO. Previously, on March 2, 2026, the CBT, led by Union Labor Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, had set the interest rate at 8.25% for the financial year 2025-26. This marks the third consecutive year that this rate has been maintained.
The proposal was subsequently forwarded to the Ministry of Finance, as the Government of India acts as the “guarantor” of the EPF. Sources indicate that the Finance Ministry has approved the proposal after thorough examination, and following the directives of the Ministry of Labor, the EPFO can now deposit the 8.25% interest amount for 2025-26 into the subscribers’ accounts this month. Additionally, it was mentioned that under the new system developed by the EPFO, interest will now be deposited directly and promptly into the subscribers’ accounts.
