Crude oil prices are rising.
Due to surging crude oil prices in the international market, state-owned retailers have begun passing the burden of increased costs on to consumers in an effort to recover a portion of their heavy losses. Under this, on May 25, Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) raised the prices of both petrol and diesel by more than ₹2.50 per litre, bringing the total hike since May 15 to ₹7.50 per litre.
Petrol and diesel prices in India are currently at their highest levels in four years. Over the past two years, fuel prices have remained largely stable, except for a ₹2 per litre reduction in March 2024.
