New Delhi: The first day of any month holds significant importance, as it often marks the implementation of various changes to rules and regulations. Did you know that, starting April 1, 2026, several major changes are set to take effect? If you intend to apply for a PAN card, it is essential to be aware of these mandatory rules. CSC e-Governance Services India Limited has shared details regarding these PAN card-related changes via a post on the social media platform X.

According to the post shared on social media, the new regulations will impact how users apply for PAN cards or how their applications are processed. You can find a detailed explanation below regarding the specific requirements and documentation needed to obtain a PAN card.

Know the Major Changes Awaiting Applicants Starting April 1

The changes set to come into force on April 1 will apply to every citizen who wishes to apply for a new PAN card or seeks to make modifications to their existing card details. You can carefully review the complete list of these changes below.

What is Required for a PAN Card?

Until March 31, only an Aadhaar card is required to obtain a PAN card. However, starting April 1, 2026, the application process will become somewhat more complex. Applicants will be required to submit additional supporting documents alongside their application. Therefore, this serves as the final opportunity to apply using the simplified, Aadhaar-based application process.

Another Essential Requirement

According to the new regulations, effective April 1, 2026, the name printed on the PAN card must strictly match the name recorded in the applicant’s Aadhaar card. Consequently, it is imperative to verify and ensure the accuracy of your Aadhaar card details before applying for a PAN card.

Furthermore, under the updated procedural framework, a new PAN application form is expected to be introduced shortly. This new form is set to replace the current version. As of April 1, 2026, the existing (old) PAN application form will no longer be accepted for either new applications or requests for updates.

Which Documents Will Be Required?

Starting from the first day of the new financial year, applicants will be required to submit additional supporting documents—in addition to their Aadhaar card—to obtain a PAN card. These include birth certificates, Voter IDs, passports, driving licenses, matriculation certificates, affidavits issued by a Magistrate, and other documents issued by the government.
