PAN Card: If you’re considering applying for a new PAN card, this information is crucial for you. The Income Tax Department has revamped the entire application process for obtaining a PAN card, starting April 1st. The PAN card is an essential document for your financial matters. To streamline the application process, the department has introduced four new, distinct forms, replacing the previous Forms 49A and 49AA. The aim of the government is to make this process quicker, simpler, and more user-friendly.
Which form should you choose?
In the past, there were just two forms available. Indian citizens could apply using Form 49A under Rule 114 of the Income Tax Act, 1962, while NRIs and foreign entities used Form 49AA. However, the Income Tax Department has now substituted these two forms with four new ones, each tailored for different categories.
Form 93: This form is intended for Resident Individuals living in India.
Form 94: This form is meant for Indian companies or entities that are registered in India.
Form 95: This is for foreign nationals seeking a PAN card in India.
Form 96: This is designated for foreign companies or entities that are registered outside of India.
What other changes have been made?
The new forms eliminate a lot of outdated and lengthy information requirements. You will no longer need to provide salutations (like Mr., Mrs.) or abbreviations. The key changes include:
Name Same as Aadhaar: You are now required to enter your full name exactly as it appears on your Aadhaar card. No abbreviations will be accepted.
Mother’s name is now required: Previously, providing your mother’s name was optional, but it is now mandatory.
Mobile and Email Required: You must now include your mobile number and email ID in the form to receive direct updates and notifications.
New rule for photo : To further improve the identity, a bigger and clearer photo will now have to be attached to the application.
Residency Status : You will now be required to provide your status as an Indian resident, NRI, or RNOR (Resident But Not Ordinarily Resident). Applicants in the NRI or RNOR categories will also need to submit additional details such as passport information and TIN.
If you need to make any corrections to your old PAN card, the system has been separated for that as well. There will now be two separate forms for making corrections: PAN CR-01 for ordinary citizens and PAN CR-02 for companies. All these changes have been made to prevent tax evasion and make the data more accurate.
