PAN Card Correction: Know How to Change Date of Birth on PAN Card Online—Latest 2026 Rules

PAN Card: In India, the PAN card has become one of the most essential documents for financial transactions and government identification. Whether opening a bank account, investing in the stock market, or filing an Income Tax Return (ITR), a PAN card is required everywhere. However, if the date of birth on your PAN card is incorrect, your KYC may be rejected, and your important work may be stalled. As of the latest update for 2026, the Income Tax Department has made the PAN card correction process completely digital and paperless.

Major Problems Caused by an Incorrect Date of Birth

People often overlook minor errors on their PAN card, but in the financial world, this can become a major obstacle. When you update your KYC at a mutual fund or bank, your Aadhaar and PAN data must match exactly. If your date of birth is different, your application is immediately rejected.

Additionally, a data mismatch while filing your income tax return could delay your refund or result in a notice from the department. Even when applying for a passport or receiving a government subsidy, if the PAN card information differs from other documents, the verification process can be delayed for weeks. Therefore, it’s wise to correct it promptly rather than ignoring it.

Online Process for Changing the Date of Birth on a PAN Card

If you want to avoid the hassle and make the correction from your smartphone or laptop, you can visit the official website of NSDL (Protean) or UTIITSL. You can go to the ‘Online PAN Application’ option and select the ‘Changes or Correction’ form. When filling in your personal information, enter the exact date of birth as recorded on your Aadhaar card in the ‘Date of Birth’ column.

When it comes to documents, your Aadhaar card is considered the most effective proof of birth. During the digital process, an OTP is sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number. Entering it completes your e-KYC. You don’t need to send any physical copies. After the process is complete, you’ll need to pay a nominal government fee (approximately ₹106-₹110) online.

You can use select government documents to update your PAN card’s date of birth. In addition to your Aadhaar card, you can also use a birth certificate issued by the municipal corporation or your 10th-grade marksheet as proof, provided the date of birth is clearly mentioned. Official documents, like a passport or pension payment order, are also valid for this purpose. Please note that the information in the documents you upload must match the information in the form you filled out.

Offline Correction Process

If you don’t use the internet often, you can also get this work done by visiting your nearest Common Service Center (CSC) or PAN Facilitation Center. You’ll need to fill out and submit the correction form (Form 49A Changes). Attach photocopies of your documents and two color passport-size photographs to the form. The official on duty will verify your details and issue you an Acknowledgement Receipt. Using the number on this receipt, you can check from home when your PAN card will be ready.
