Salary Increase: The salary in Madhya Pradesh has been raised once more. In a significant move for employees and workers, the state government has announced an increase of Rs 2,434 per month. The official order for this adjustment has been issued, specifically affecting the minimum salary of outsourced employees and workers.
New minimum wages will be applicable to outsourced employees and workers
Following a ruling from the Indore High Court, the Labor Department released the orders for this salary increase on Thursday. The new minimum wages will be applicable to outsourced employees and workers in Madhya Pradesh, with the benefits set to take effect from March 2025. Approximately 2.1 million outsourced employees and workers in the state will see their salaries rise from Rs 1,625 to Rs 2,434 per month.
While the Labor Department has confirmed the wage increase, it has not provided any details regarding the arrears for the past 11 months. It is anticipated that the payment of the increased wages and any outstanding arrears will commence in April 2024. This decision by the Labor Department follows the Indore bench of the High Court’s ruling on February 10, which also instructed the government to establish a distinct minimum wage for workers in the textile sector.
Consequently, around 400,000 workers in these industries will have to wait for their salary adjustments. Previously, the High Court dismissed a petition from the MP Textile Mills Association that challenged the notification regarding the increase in minimum salaries for outsourced employees and laborers.
In November 2019, the Minimum Wage Advisory Board had recommended a 25% salary increase for outsourced employees and laborers in the state. Although the government implemented this recommendation starting April 1, 2024, workers were only able to receive the increased salary for a single month.
