Zupee Layoff- Big news for Zupee workers. Gaming platform Zupee is laying off 170 employees. This is about 30% of its total workforce. The company has taken this decision after the ban on real money gaming. The company’s CEO Dilsher Singh said on September 11 that this is a very difficult time for everyone but it was necessary to do so under the new rules.
Dilsher Singh said that the employees who are being laid off have been an important part of Zupee’s journey and the company will always be grateful to them for this. However, the company says that the company will help those who are being fired.
Laid off employees will get help
Gaming company Zupee is laying off 170 employees. The company’s CEO Dilsher Singh says that they will be provided assistance until they find a new job. Zupee’s CEO says that those who are being laid off will also be given financial assistance for up to six months, based on how long they have worked for the company.
The health insurance coverage of these employees will continue and a medical support fund of Rs 1 crore has been created to give them additional security. Gaming startup Zupee is also forming a team that will look for new jobs for these 170 employees. Also, when there will be new hiring in the company, they will be given priority.
And which other companies are in trouble?
Due to the ban on real money gaming, many companies are facing layoffs. Head Digital Works, which runs the online rummy platform A23 Rummy, recently laid off about 500 employees, which was about two-thirds of its workforce. According to Moneycontrol sources, Mobile Premium League (MPL) may lay off about 60-80% i.e. about 500-600 employees from its Indian unit. Nazara Technologies of Baazi Games (Moonshine Technology), which runs the online poker platform PokerBaazi, is also laying off about 45% i.e. more than 200 employees. Apart from all this, there have been large-scale layoffs in Games24*7, which runs the online rummy platform Rummy Circle and fantasy sports platform My11Circle.
What is Zupee’s plan now?
Zupee was started in 2018 by Malhi and Siddhant Saurabh. It focuses on board games like Ludo and Snakes and Ladders. Recently, it introduced carrom on its platform. After the ban on real-money games, Zupee introduced a range of online social games on an ad-supported basis. Earlier this week, Moneycontrol revealed that Zupee has entered micro drama with a new feature Zupee Studio that offers short-form drama shows to its 150 million users. It has also launched a paid subscription service called Zupee Plus, which costs ₹499 for three months and offers unlimited access to games and shows without ads.
