In many states across the country, people get the benefit of government schemes through their Aadhaar card. In November 2019, UIDAI gave state governments the right to do Aadhaar verification for state-level schemes.
Now, the Rekha Gupta government in Delhi has announced that having an Aadhaar card will be mandatory to get the benefits of state government schemes. The BJP government in Delhi had sent a proposal to the Lieutenant Governor, VK Saxena, to make Aadhaar card compulsory. This proposal has now been approved by the Lieutenant Governor.
In Delhi, the income certificate is also an important document to get financial help under many government schemes.
Lieutenant Governor Issues Statement
A statement from Raj Niwas said that this step will help stop any wrong practices or corruption in giving income certificates. It will make sure that only the right and genuine people get the benefits of government schemes and financial help.
Delhi Government’s Proposal Approved
The Delhi government, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, had sent a proposal to bring the service of giving income certificates under Section 7 of the Aadhaar Act, 2016. This rule allows the state or central government to make Aadhaar-based verification compulsory for people who get subsidies, services, or benefits.
Now, Aadhaar verification has become easier. People can even fix name-related mistakes in their Aadhaar card from home.
Aadhaar Card Needed for These Schemes
The income certificate given by the Revenue Department is used to check who is eligible for many welfare schemes. These include:
Tuition fee reimbursement for SC, ST, and OBC students
Health-related financial help under pension schemes
Delhi Arogya Kosh benefits
Officials from the Revenue Department said that using Aadhaar will help in giving services faster and in a better way. It will also bring more clarity and make sure that only eligible people get the benefits.
