A network of expressways and highways has been laid across the country, which has made traveling easier, but the toll tax has become a big expense. To eliminate this problem, NHAI (National Highways Authority of India) has launched the FASTag Annual Pass from 15 August 2025. This pass will free you from the worry of paying tolls for a year, but it is very important to know that this pass does not work on all expressways and highways. Let us know where this special pass will work and where you will have to pay toll tax.

What is the FASTag Annual Pass, and how much does it cost

FASTag Annual Pass is exclusively for private vehicles. You can get it by paying a one-time fee of just ₹ 3,000. This pass is valid for 1 year or 200 toll-free trips, whichever is completed first. This means that you can pass through the toll plaza without stopping for a whole year or 200 times. In just 4 days of its launch, more than 5 lakh people bought it, which shows its popularity.

On which expressways and highways will the pass not work

The FASTag Annual Pass works only on those toll plazas that are operated by NHAI. This pass will not work on those expressways and highways that are under the authority of the state government. Below is a list of some of the major roads where you will have to pay tolls from your normal FASTag account:

Yamuna Expressway (Uttar Pradesh)

Purvanchal Expressway (Uttar Pradesh)

Bundelkhand Expressway (Uttar Pradesh)

Agra-Lucknow Expressway (Uttar Pradesh)

Samriddhi Mahamarg (Maharashtra)

Mumbai-Pune Expressway (operated by MSRDC)

Atal Setu (Goa)

Toll roads under other state authorities

If you are traveling on these roads, do not forget to keep sufficient balance in your normal FASTag account.

Who can get a FASTag Annual Pass

Anyone who owns a personal vehicle can apply for a FASTag Annual Pass. This pass is only for private, non-commercial vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans. Your vehicle must already have an active FASTag installed. Note that this pass is non-transferable, meaning it can only be used on the vehicle for which it has been purchased. Commercial vehicles, taxis, and two-wheelers are not a part of this scheme.

One trip will be counted once you pass through the toll plaza.

If you return from the same toll plaza, it will be counted as a second trip.

On closed system roads (where there are entry and exit toll plazas), the entire journey will be considered as one trip.

This FASTag Annual Pass is a great facility for those who travel on the same route frequently, and it will make traveling on roads in India even easier.
