New Aadhaar Card: Big changes are coming to Aadhaar cards in India. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is rolling out a new version, and this time, it’s all about keeping your personal info safe. The new card will only have your photo and a QR code—no more printed personal details. That means it gets a lot harder for anyone to misuse your Aadhaar information.
Why is this new Aadhaar card required?
So, why bother with a new card? Right now, places like hotels and event organizers often collect physical copies of Aadhaar cards for ID. That’s actually not allowed, and it leads to problems. People have misused those copies, and it’s way too easy to fake a printed card. UIDAI keeps saying that identity checks should happen using either the Aadhaar number or the QR code, not the printed info. To fix these issues, they’re switching to this new, stripped-down card.
New Aadhaar app with advanced technology is coming
But there’s more. UIDAI isn’t just updating the card—they’re also launching a brand-new Aadhaar app, replacing the old mAadhaar app. With this new app, you’ll be able to share your digital identity using QR codes or other verifiable credentials, so your private details stay private and your security gets a boost.
They’re building this app to match the new Digital Personal Data Protection Act, which goes into full effect over the next year and a half. Banks, hotels, fintech companies—they’ve all been given the heads-up about how the app will work, so they can get ready for the change.
