Business Idea: 20-year-old Mahendra, a resident of Karahari village in Chhatarpur district, has become an example of hard work and dedication in his village. After completing his eighth grade and finding no job, he forged his own path in life. He began selling pulses door to door, and within a few months, he was earning a substantial profit through his hard work.
Mahendra had a passion for travel
Mahendra explains that he wasn’t particularly academically inclined since childhood and was a travel enthusiast. However, when his family’s financial situation deteriorated, he decided to resume his father’s old work. His father used to travel from village to village selling pulses and dry fruits. Inspired by this, Mahendra started this business two months ago.

Sells from Mahoba
Mahendra’s village, Karahari, is located near the Mahoba district. Therefore, he buys pulses like mung beans, black gram, pigeon peas, and masoor in bulk from Mahoba. For example, he buys mung dal for ₹60 per kg and sells it for up to ₹100 per kg at retail. Mung dal is in high demand in the Chhatarpur area, earning him a good profit.
Earnings by Traveling from Village to Village
Mahendra explains that he visits 5 to 10 villages every day to sell dal. He sells an average of ₹2,000 per day. Even after deducting petrol costs, he saves over ₹1,000 per day. He smiles and says that this work is not only profitable but also allows him to interact with people.

Low Costs Bring High Profits
According to Mahendra, this business has virtually no overhead costs. The main expense is petrol. He says that he easily earns a profit of ₹30 to ₹40 per kg of dal. Selling 50 kg of dal daily generates an average income of ₹1,500 to ₹2,000. He also sells dry fruits, which generates additional profits.
Customer trust is key
Mahendra says that once customers buy pulses from him, they often prefer to buy from him again. He maintains the trust of his old customers by offering them pulses for 5 rupees less. This trust is making his business recognizable in every village.
