Why is the government bringing this scheme?

Heavy fines have been imposed on those who break traffic rules in Maharashtra, but till now, challans worth about Rs 2,500 crore are pending from them. In Mumbai alone, an amount of about Rs 1,000 crore has not been recovered yet. In such a situation, the government wants to recover these dues as soon as possible by giving discounts to the people. This amount will help the government in running schemes like Ladki Bahin Yojana.

What is the plan regarding the scheme?

Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik, while giving information, said that this waiver scheme is not to waive the challan completely, but to give some relief to the people from the fine. That is, the vehicle owners will have to pay some amount of the challan. At the same time, the remaining amount can be waived. However, the final decision to implement the scheme will be taken only after the approval of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Apart from this, if a vehicle owner pays within 15 days, then he can get a discount of up to 50 percent. At the same time, the Transport Department hopes that 50 percent to 75 percent of the dues can be recovered through this scheme.

How much problem is there in collecting the challan?

The transport department has seen that there were a lot of problems in the way the fines were collected. Given this, the government thought of running this scheme.
