Liqour Price Hike- Major setback for Liqour lovers. Liquor will soon become expensive in Maharashtra. In the cabinet meeting led by the state’s Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, many changes have been made in the rules for selling and manufacturing liquor. The Maharashtra government has increased the excise duty on liquor. The government has taken a big decision to increase the income from liquor. The government believes that these steps can generate an extra income of about Rs 14,000 crore for the state every year.
The government took important steps
The cabinet has approved the recommendations of a high-level committee, which made several suggestions after studying the successful models of other states. Now a control room with AI i.e. Artificial Intelligence will be set up to monitor liquor factories and distilleries in the state. This will stop the illegal trade of liquor and bring transparency in the entire system.
Offices will open in these cities of Maharashtra
New offices will be opened in cities like Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, Nagpur, Thane and Ahilyanagar so that the liquor related laws can be implemented properly.
Excise duty increased, liquor will become expensive
The government has increased tax on domestic and foreign liquor, due to which their prices may also increase.
Now, tax of Rs 205 per litre will be levied on country-made liquor, which was earlier Rs 180 per litre.
The tax on IMFL i.e. Indian Made Foreign Liquor will be 4.5 times the production cost. Earlier it was three times.
Retail prices of liquor will be affected
Country liquor: Rs 80
Maharashtra Made Liquor (MML): Rs 148
IMFL: Rs 205
Premium liquor: Rs 360.
Maharashtra Made Liquor (MML) launched
The government has introduced a new liquor category called MML (Maharashtra Made Liquor). This will be a liquor made from grains and only producers from Maharashtra can make it. This will promote local production in the state.
