Out of 2 crore 52 lakh beneficiaries of this scheme, now 26 lakh 34 thousand women have been declared ineligible for various reasons. The shocking thing is that 14 thousand 298 men have also taken advantage of this scheme. High-ranking officials estimate that about Rs 4 thousand 800 crore has been lost this year due to ineligible beneficiaries.

How many beneficiaries are ineligible?

Women and Child Welfare Minister Aditi Tatkare herself presented the figures of ineligible beneficiaries on social media. After the Devendra Fadnavis government came to power, it was decided to re-verify the applications. The Women and Child Development Department had sought information from other government departments to identify all the eligible applicants under this scheme.

According to the information given by the Information and Technology Department, 26 lakh 34 thousand beneficiaries have been found ineligible. Tatkare said that some ‘sisters’ are taking advantage of more than one scheme and some families have more than two beneficiaries, while in some places men have also applied.

Beneficiaries have been temporarily stopped since June. He also said that installments have been distributed to about 2.25 crore eligible beneficiaries. Tatkare said that after verification of the beneficiaries whose benefits have been temporarily stopped, the distribution of funds to the eligible beneficiaries will be resumed. Tatkare said that the benefits will be resumed by the government.

About five lakh beneficiaries, including 30 thousand beneficiaries of Sanjay Gandhi Niradhar Yojana, 1 lakh 10 thousand women above 65 years of age, four wheelers in the name of family members and 1 lakh 60 thousand beneficiaries of Namo Shakti Yojana, have already been declared ineligible.
