In today’s digital age, while UPI payments have made transactions incredibly easy, the AutoPay feature is becoming a source of trouble for many. Often, people receive a sudden message on their mobile phone stating that money has been deducted from their account, leaving them wondering what the payment was for. The culprit is often old subscriptions linked to AutoPay, which people forget to cancel in time.

What is AutoPay, and how does it become a problem?
AutoPay is a feature that allows payments for an app or digital service to be made automatically at a set time. When a user subscribes to Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hotstar, or a recharge app, they grant permission for UPI AutoPay once. After that, money is deducted from the account every month or at the specified interval without any further permission. The problem arises when the user stops using the app or deletes it, but the AutoPay remains active. In such cases, small amounts deducted every month can add up to a significant loss.

Why are unwanted subscriptions not visible?
Most people assume that deleting the app also cancels the subscription, but the reality is quite the opposite. AutoPay is linked to the UPI system, not just the mobile app. This is why people don’t realize which service their money is going to, and they continue making unnecessary payments for months.

How does the NPCI government portal provide a solution?
To address this problem, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has provided an official UPI portal. The unique feature of this portal is that it displays complete information about all AutoPay mandates linked to your UPI account in one place. This is a completely government-run and secure platform, eliminating the risk of any fraud.

How to view all your AutoPay mandates?

What kind of information is available on the portal?
In the AutoPay Mandates section, you can clearly see which subscription is linked to which app or service, the amount deducted each month, and when the AutoPay was activated. For example, if you subscribed to a Netflix plan in the past and no longer use it, you will find all the details on this portal. This makes it easy to decide which subscriptions to keep and which to cancel.

Managing AutoPay subscriptions on the NPCI portal is very easy. For each AutoPay subscription you no longer need, you will find “Pause” and “Revoke” options. Pausing an AutoPay temporarily suspends it, and you can reactivate it later if needed. Revoking an AutoPay completely cancels it, and you will need to grant new permission to subscribe again. This way, with just one click, you can save money that was being wasted every month.
