DIGIPIN– Now you will not need PIN codes to send couriers. Indian Post has launched DIGIPIN service, which will generate digital PIN code based on your location coordinates. The advantage of this digital PIN code service will be that your courier will reach the right address. How can you get your Digipin and how will it work? Let’s find out.

What is DIGIPIN?

Indian Post is also going to be completely digital now. A dedicated website has been launched for India Post’s digital PIN code service. Through this website, users will be able to generate a digital PIN code for their address. These DigiPins are unique 10 digit alphanumeric codes. These codes are based on the location coordinates of your home or office address.

Apart from courier and parcel, Digipin can also be used for emergency services. You can use your Digipin to call the police, ambulance or fire service for immediate help in case of an emergency. You will have to share your Digipin with the emergency services. With the help of Digipin, it will be easy for the ambulance, fire brigade or police to locate your address.

How to generate DIGIPIN?

To generate Digipin for your address you have to visit the official website https://dac.indiapost.gov.in/mydigipin/home .

Here you have to give location access of your device, so that Digipin can be created based on your exact location.

After granting location permission, your Digipin will be generated, which you can use for emergency services, logistics, courier delivery and even for booking a cab.

According to India Post, IIT Hyderabad, NRSC and ISRO have played an important role in preparing DIGIPIN. Due to them, it became easy to generate DIGIPIN of the precise location of homes, offices, institutions etc. in a grid of 4mx4m. Each grid was given a unique alphanumeric 10 character PIN code, which was based on the coordinates of that location. This DIGIPIN will be completely different from the existing PIN codes.

How different is it from PIN code?

The existing PIN codes are made on the basis of a large area, whereas DigiPin has a precise location. All the post offices in India have 6 digit PIN codes, whereas DigiPin will have 10 characters, which will be a mix of alphabets and numbers. It is precise, due to which it becomes easy to find the location. The special thing about this digital PIN code is that it can be used offline as well.
