Along with the harsh winter in Delhi, the toxicity of pollution has also begun to permeate the air. Amidst the smog and toxic air, the Delhi government has now begun tightening its grip on CNG vehicles, which had previously been exempt from pollution regulations. Effective today, Thursday, December 18, 2025, the rules for filling CNG in the capital have completely changed. Now, if you don’t have a valid PUC certificate for your vehicle, you will have to return empty-handed from the CNG pump.
This strict decision by the Delhi government and Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has been taken to control the rising pollution. This new rule will directly impact millions of drivers in Delhi-NCR, so checking your vehicle documents before leaving home is now crucial for both your time and your pocket.
Petrol pumps won’t provide CNG fuel

In light of the increasing pollution in Delhi’s atmosphere, Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has issued an official statement clarifying that gas will now be dispensed at CNG pumps only if the driver possesses a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate. This rule has come into effect across Delhi from December 18, 2025.
IGL has appealed to all consumers to update their PUC certificates in time to avoid any problems during refills. Pump employees will now ask for the PUC before filling, and if the document is not available, gas will be refused. The government believes this step will help identify vehicles that are emitting excessive emissions and poisoning the city’s air.

No Entry sign at Delhi’s border
Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa has also announced major changes in this fight against pollution. Delhi’s doors are now closed to vehicles that do not meet BS-VI standards. This ban isn’t limited to petrol and diesel vehicles, but also applies equally to CNG vehicles coming from outside states.
If your vehicle is a BS-4 model or older, it will now be impossible for you to enter Delhi. The government had given a deadline until December 17th, which has now expired. Now, only vehicles that meet the most modern emission standards will be allowed to ply on Delhi’s roads.

Warning for drivers coming from outside states
The Delhi Police and Transport Department have tightened security at the borders. Drivers coming to Delhi from other NCR cities like Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad have been especially warned. The police have clarified that this ban applies to all types of fuel.
If you plan to enter Delhi with your vehicle, ensure you have all valid documents and a BS-6 certificate. To avoid any inconvenience, the administration has also issued helpline numbers 011-25844444 and 1095, where you can call to get the latest rules and route information.
