Form 16 Income Tax Return: The deadline for filing income tax return, i.e. IT  R in the country has been extended from 31 July to 15 September 2025. Know what Form 16 is

Form 16 is an important document for salaried employees. Which is issued by your company, i.e. employer. Form 16 is issued by the company for the financial year in which TDS (Tax Deducted at Source) has been deducted on the employee’s income. It gives complete details of salary, tax deduction and exemption. So the same taxpayer can reduce his tax liability by taking advantage of deductions like 80C, 80D, and 80CCD. Which can be used while filing the Income Tax Return (ITR).

Information about Form 16

According to the Income Tax Department, companies have time till June 15, 2025, to issue Form 16 for the financial year 2024–25. However, if an employer does not issue Form 16 on time during this period, then a fine of ₹ 100 can be imposed daily. Let us tell you that Form 16 has two parts.

Part A- This part contains basic information about the company and the employee, including the name and address of the employee and the employer, PAN and TAN numbers, total TDS deducted from the salary, and dates of depositing TDS.

Part B- This part shows the breakup of your salary (basic salary, HRA, allowances, etc.), exemptions under section 10 (such as HRA, LTA), deductions under section 80C, 80D, 80CCD etc.D, etc. and the tax liability here.
