IRCTC Account-Aadhaar Card Link: Indian Railways has made a major change to the general reservation ticket booking rules, effective October 1, 2025. According to these new rules, passengers will be able to book general reservation tickets only if their IRCTC account is linked to Aadhaar. This will then be verified through Aadhaar OTP authentication. This new rule will prevent fraudulent bookings and ticket black marketing.

The Railways says that this change will not only ensure passenger identification but also make the ticketing system more transparent and secure. The biggest benefit will be that common passengers will find it easier to obtain tickets and the waiting list will be reduced. However, if your IRCTC account isn’t linked to Aadhaar, you may face difficulties in purchasing tickets. Therefore, link your IRCTC account to Aadhaar by following these steps now…

How to link IRCTC account with Aadhaar?

  1. For this, first login to the IRCTC website.
  2. After this go to My Account section and click on Authenticate User.
  3. Here now enter your Aadhaar number or Virtual ID and click on Verify Details.
  4. After this, enter the OTP received on the registered mobile number and submit.

Once this process is completed, your account will be linked to Aadhaar and you will be able to book general reservation tickets easily. From October 1, you’ll need to provide your Aadhaar number not only online but also when booking tickets through the PRS counter at a railway station. Yes, even at the counter, your verification will be done through an OTP. This means that linking your mobile number to Aadhaar is crucial.
