UPI Circle: Big update for UPI users. Handling money for family and friends has always been difficult, but the UPI Circle feature, launched last year, has made the process much easier. This feature allows you to make payments on someone else’s behalf, and it’s also secure.
What is UPI Circle?
NPCI has launched a new feature called UPI Circles, which allows multiple people to share a single UPI ID. In this system, the primary user can add a trusted individual, such as a family member, friend, or spouse, as a secondary user. Both individuals can then transact using the same bank account and UPI ID. The primary user can set a pre-set limit for the secondary user. For security purposes, NPCI has provided the option for the primary user to grant or revoke permission for the secondary user at any time.
Know the transaction limit
- One transaction up to Rs 5,000 can be done per device .
- The monthly limit per device is Rs 15,000.
- There is a limit of Rs 2,000 for 24 hours after adding a new device .
- A total of up to 5 secondary devices or IoT software can be linked.
How is the transaction processed?
- Start UPI payment registration by opening the IoT app.
- Select “Enable UPI for your device” and enter the same mobile number that is being used in the Primary UPI app.
- Enter the OTP received on your phone and proceed.
- The QR code will then appear in the device app. This process can also be done via intent in phone-based apps.
- After the QR or intent linking is complete, the device details will be visible in the primary UPI app.
- The primary user will set limits and grant permissions and finally authenticate with UPI PIN or biometrics.
- After this, payment can be made from the linked device or software as and when required.
How do you activate UPI Circle?
First, grab the BHIM UPI app and connect it to your bank account. Head over to the UPI Circle section in the app and input the UPI IDs or mobile numbers of the family or friends you want to include. After that, choose if you want to give them partial or full delegation. If you opt for full delegation, make sure to set a transaction limit too. This way, you can smoothly activate the UPI Circle feature and safely handle payments for someone you care about when necessary.
