8th Pay Commission: All central employees and pensioners have the same question in mind: When will the 8th Pay Commission be implemented? The government had approved the formation of a new pay commission in January 2025, but its committee has yet to be selected. On the other hand, the 7th Pay Commission is completing ten years on December 31, 2025.
Now the question arises whether the new pay commission will be formed on January 1, 2026, as traditionally. By the way, it seems that the 8th Pay Commission will not be implemented on time. The date of its implementation has not been officially announced yet. After this, you can find out how much your salary will increase, as detailed below.
Salary will increase based on the fitment factor.
In the 7th Pay Commission, salaries were increased based on the fitment factor. Now, people are wondering what the fitment factor will be in the 8th Pay Commission. The government is considering expanding the fitment factor from 2.8 to 3.0 times the original value. The price ranges from Rs 26,000 to Rs 27,000. If this happens, the minimum wage can reach this amount.
Apart from this, the existing pension can reach Rs 25,000 with an increase of Rs 9,000. Currently, the minimum salary for central employees is Rs 18,000. However, no official announcement has been made yet regarding the salary increase that will be implemented once the new pay commission is in effect.
DA will be linked to basic salary.
The government can make the most significant change by including DA, i.e., Dearness Allowance, in the basic salary. This will have minimal impact on the total compensation of employees. In future, the increase in DA rates can be limited.
Delay in the new pay commission
Everyone is wondering when the government will implement the 8th Pay Commission. If the report is to be believed, it takes 18-24 months from the commission to the implementation of the recommendations. In such a situation, it is expected that these recommendations may not be implemented as of January 1, 2026, but may be delayed slightly. The reason for this is that the government has not yet addressed the issue.
