Honorary Rank Before Retirement: If you are working in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) or Assam Rifles, then there is a big news for you. The Modi government has given a special gift to the government employees, which will be given as a special honor at the end of their service. Now on the day of retirement i.e. when you leave the job, you will be given an honorary rank of one level above without any additional pension or financial benefit. This means that all officers from constable to sub-inspector will get honorary promotion one rank above their current rank on the day of retirement.
This decision has been given by the Ministry of Home Affairs through a circular issued on 30 May 2025, which clearly states that employees from constable to sub-inspector rank will be able to come under this scheme. Although there will be no financial benefit or increase in pension with this honorary promotion, but this honor is a big deal in itself because before retirement you will get a promotion in a respectable rank, which is a respect for your services.
What are the conditions to be fulfilled to get honorary rank?
Some rules and conditions have been fixed to take advantage of this scheme. The first thing is that the employees who want to get the honorary rank will have to meet all the promotion criteria at the time of retirement. Also, their service record should be clean and spotless. Meaning, the evaluation of their APAR (Annual Performance Appraisal Report) in the last five years must be at least ‘good’. Apart from this, there should not be any major punishment or disciplinary action of any kind in the last five years. Also, there should be no doubt about the integrity of the employee and it is also necessary to get approval from the departmental inquiry or vigilance department.
Only under all these rules will the employee get a chance to get the honorary rank. The recommendation of the concerned commanding officer is also necessary for this. Honorary rank will be available, but keep in mind that this post will be only for the same cadre in which the employee is currently working. Apart from this, getting the honorary post will not affect your seniority (inter-se seniority).
Honorary rank and what are its benefits?
Honorary rank means that you will get a rank one step higher than your current rank on the day of retirement. For example, if you are a sub-inspector, you will get the status of honorary inspector. Although there will be no salary or pension hike associated with this promotion, it is a symbol of respect for your service. It is a way to appreciate your hard work and dedication, which will make your retirement even more special.
Overall, this is a great initiative, which will serve as a mark of respect and encouragement for the employees of the Central Armed Police Forces and Assam Rifles. It is a way to appreciate their long-term services, which will give them a new enthusiasm at the time of retirement. If you also come under this scheme, then this is no less than a good news for you.
So government employees, especially brothers working in CAPFs and Assam Rifles, feel proud to get this honor in the last days of your service and keep doing your work honestly so that you can become worthy of this honorary rank.
