New Delhi: Punjab is set to hold assembly elections next year, and political parties are gearing up for the elections. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is currently in power in the state and is already preparing for a strong performance. Meanwhile, the AAP government has announced a special scheme for women, which is being widely discussed.
Under the scheme launched by the Punjab government, a monthly allowance of ₹1,000 will be provided. Women from the Scheduled Caste category will receive ₹1,500 per month. AAP made this promise before the 2022 assembly elections, and it is now being implemented.

Punjab Finance Minister Makes a Significant Decision
Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema presented the budget for the year 2026-27 in the state assembly. This budget is worth ₹2.60 lakh crore. During this period, he announced the implementation of the “Mukhya Mantri Mawan Dhiyaan Satkar Yojana” (Chief Minister Mother-Daughter Felicitation Scheme). Under this scheme, the state government will transfer money directly to women’s accounts. The Bhagwant Mann government launched this new scheme almost four years after coming to power in Punjab.

Cheema said that the government will transfer Rs. 1,500 every month to the accounts of women from the Scheduled Caste community. This announcement was made on the occasion of International Women’s Day. This is the first time the state budget has been presented on Sunday.
Learn Who Will Be Eligible for the Scheme
The Finance Minister of the Punjab government has described this scheme as the world’s first “universal cash transfer” scheme for women. He said that every woman above the age of 18 in Punjab will be eligible for this scheme. Only current or former government employees, former and current MPs/MLAs, and income tax payers have been excluded from this scheme.
According to Cheema, women receiving social security pensions (old age, widow, or disability pensions) will also be able to benefit from this scheme. He claimed that approximately 97 per cent of adult women in Punjab will be covered.
How much will it cost?
This government initiative aims to promote women’s economic independence, strengthen their role in household decisions, improve health and nutrition, and promote higher education and the aspirations of girls. Cheema has allocated a budget of ₹9,300 crore for the financial year 2026-27 to ensure the transparent and timely implementation of the scheme.
