Government schemes: The Government of India is running many welfare schemes to strengthen the economic condition of farmers and promote progress in the agricultural sector. The aim of these schemes is to provide financial assistance, security and facilities of modern techniques to the farmers. Here we are presenting the details of 10 major schemes run by the government, through which farmers can increase their income and make farming work easier.

 Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme (PMFBY)

This scheme provides insurance coverage to farmers in case of crop failure. This scheme is very beneficial for compensating the loss of crop due to natural disasters, pests or diseases. Farmers get insurance facility at a nominal premium which reduces the risk associated with their crop.

State schemes related to crop insurance

Apart from PMFBY, many state governments also run their own crop insurance schemes which protect the income of farmers in situations like climate change, drought or excessive rainfall. The benefits of these schemes can be availed by connecting with the local bank, insurance agent or agriculture department.

PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana

​This scheme, launched in July 2025, provides financial assistance to farmers for grain storage and crop management. Under this, help is provided in creating modern warehouses, cold storage and post-harvest infrastructure. Farmers can apply for this through the website of the Agriculture Department or the District Agriculture Office.

Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF)

This scheme provides financial assistance for the development of infrastructure in the agricultural sector. Under this, loans are given at affordable rates for setting up warehouses, cold storage, packaging units and other agricultural equipment. This scheme helps in improving the storage and distribution of agricultural products.

Krishi Udan Scheme

The objective of Krishi Udaan Yojana is to quickly transport the farmers’ produce, especially perishable fruits and vegetables, from remote areas to big markets. This prevents the produce from getting spoiled and farmers get better prices. To avail the benefits of the scheme, farmers can contact local mandis or FPO.

Kisan ATMA Yojana​

​This scheme provides modern farming techniques, training and information to farmers. Under this, workshops, field training and technical assistance are provided by Krishi Vigyan Kendras and Agriculture Department. Farmers can contact the local agriculture office for registration.

Soil Health Card Scheme

The objective of this scheme is to provide information to farmers about the fertility and nutrient status of their land. Soil health card provides information about the quality of soil, its needs and suitable crops. This helps farmers to select the right crop and use fertilizers in a balanced manner.

PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana

This scheme has been launched to provide financial assistance to small and marginal farmers. Under this scheme, eligible farmers are given an amount of Rs 6,000 every year in three installments. This amount is transferred directly to the bank accounts of the farmers. Its objective is to reduce the agricultural cost of farmers and empower them financially.

 Kisan Credit Card Scheme (KCC)

This scheme provides loans to farmers at low interest rates for their farming related needs. Through Kisan Credit Card, farmers can get money to purchase seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and other agricultural equipment. This scheme is also helpful in meeting emergency financial needs.
