Government Subsidy: An essential initiative is being implemented by the state government aimed at supporting cattle breeders and milk producers. The “Mukhyamantri Swadeshi Gau-Samvardhan Yojana” offers a grant of up to Rs 80,000. This program provides financial assistance to farmers for the acquisition of native breed cows. To benefit from this initiative, cattle farmers must submit their applications by 24 February 2025.
Akhilendra Mishra, the District Coordinator and Dairy Development Officer, stated that this scheme operates under the Nand Baba Milk Mission, which primarily seeks to promote the Gir, Sahiwal, and Tharparkar breeds and enhance milk production. The government will prioritize women milk producers and cow keepers by granting them 50 percent preference.
Additionally, the cows must be either first or second calving, and it is mandatory to implement a microchip or ear tagging system for their identification. Subsidies will only be available for the purchase of improved native breed cows, such as Gir, Sahiwal, and Tharparkar, which are well-suited to the Indian climate and contribute to higher milk yields. The government’s objective is to preserve indigenous cow breeds and boost milk production, thereby strengthening the rural economy. Farmers will receive a 40% subsidy for establishing a unit consisting of two cows, with a maximum limit of Rs 80,000.
What grants and additional benefits are available?
Under this initiative, the government provides a 40% subsidy to cattle farmers for purchasing cows, with a maximum subsidy cap of Rs 80,000. Farmers are responsible for covering the remaining 60% of the cost. Furthermore, animal insurance is mandatory under this scheme, offering protection to animal keepers in the event of unforeseen losses. If you wish to take advantage of this program, please ensure your application is submitted by 24 February 2025.
