A good news has been coming out from Indian Railways. This news has provided some much needed relief for the passengers. Now, a passenger can change the date of a confirmed ticket also— which is considering as a significant step from the railway authority.

The rush for tickets on Indian Railways is nothing new. In this rush, booking a ticket for the wrong date also something can bother you very much. It’s a difficult process to obtain, and the date is also incorrect. If this has happened to you, there’s no need to worry. According to media reports, Indian Railways will soon be offering passengers a new facility. This facility will allow passengers to change the date on their confirmed tickets without any financial loss.

No money will be charged

Media reports suggest that Indian Railways is preparing a major change for the convenience of passengers. This change will be a relief for passengers, as they will be given the option to change the date on their confirmed tickets, and the special thing is that no money will be deducted for doing so. Simply put, if you have a confirmed ticket from Delhi to Jaipur on November 30th, and for some reason your plan changes five days later, you will not need to buy a new ticket on December 5th.

How to use the feature

You can edit your November 30th ticket and use that same ticket to travel to Jaipur on December 5th. Currently, passengers must cancel their tickets if their plans are canceled. This has two disadvantages: first, the Railways charges a cancellation fee, and second, it becomes difficult to determine if you will receive a confirmed ticket for the date you wish to travel.

According to media report, the Railway Minister himself has stated his position on this matter, stating that this system is not correct. The Minister stated that necessary instructions have been issued to change this system and work is underway. It is claimed that the date of confirmed online travel will be changed starting January 2026. Currently, cancellation of a ticket requires a fee of ₹240 plus GST for First AC. Furthermore, for AC 2-tier, the charge is ₹200, with GST varying for each class. For Third AC, the Railways charges ₹180 plus GST. If the travel date change rule is implemented, passengers will benefit significantly.
