The Uttar Pradesh government has launched the Chief Minister Kanya Sumangala Yojana with the aim of providing financial security to the state’s daughters from birth to higher education. In many families, girls’ education is interrupted due to financial constraints. The government’s initiative aims to ensure that no daughter has to abandon her dreams simply because of a lack of money. Under this scheme, the government provides a total financial assistance of Rs. 25,000 in a phased manner to cover educational expenses at every age.

Financial assistance in six stages from birth to college
The scheme is designed to provide financial support to the family at every important stage of the daughter’s development journey. At the time of the daughter’s birth, the government provides Rs. 5,000, which helps with initial care and essential expenses. After the child completes all mandatory vaccinations by the age of one year, the family receives an additional Rs. 2,000 to ensure better health and nutrition.
When the child enters the first grade, she receives assistance of Rs. 3,000. Similarly, another Rs. 3,000 is given when she enters the sixth grade, making it easier to meet school-related needs. A new support of Rs. 5,000 is provided when she starts studying in the ninth grade. Finally, when the girl passes her tenth or twelfth-grade exams and enrolls in a diploma or graduation course, she receives an additional assistance of Rs. 7,000. In this way, a total of Rs. 25,000 provides continuous support for the daughter’s education.
Who can benefit from the scheme?
The benefits of the scheme are available only to families whose annual income is less than three lakh rupees. The government has also clarified that a maximum of two daughters per family will be eligible for the benefits. However, if a family has three daughters and two of them are twins, then all three daughters will be considered eligible.
The application process for this scheme is entirely available online, allowing people to upload documents from the comfort of their homes. Those who do not have access to the internet or mobile phones can also apply through Common Service Centers, the Women’s Welfare Department, or the district’s Probation Office.
How the scheme is changing the future of daughters
The Kanya Sumangala Yojana has become a strong source of hope for families who want to provide their daughters with a good education but are struggling with financial constraints. The education of many girls, which was previously interrupted due to a lack of funds, is now continuing without interruption. This scheme not only provides financial assistance but also sends a positive message to society that daughters are not a burden in any way, but rather the foundation of the country’s progress.
