Stamp Duty– There is good news for 8 lakh women in Uttarpradesh. CM Yogi Adityanath has asked for one percent additional stamp duty exemption for women in purchasing property up to one crore rupees. At least 8 lakh women will get the benefit of this. After the decision of one percent exemption in stamp duty on registration of up to one crore rupees comes into effect, the number of properties in the name of women is expected to increase rapidly.
It is estimated that properties worth about 4 lakh crores will be registered in the name of women in a year. In the state, due to the rules giving equal rights to women in family property, about 3.50 lakh properties have been registered in the name of sisters and daughters in the last three years. This initiative of the state government has increased the financial security and autonomy of women.
The Stamp and Registration Department had fixed a fee of only Rs 5000 for donating property in blood relations. Due to this, the rules made in the state for the share and rights of women in family property made them the true owners. The effect of this decision is that in just three years, fathers and brothers transferred the rights of daughters and sisters on about 3.50 lakh properties in their name. Whereas, before 2022, women were able to get legal rights over property worth around Rs 60 thousand.
