Another big news is waiting for PAN Card holders. You’ve probably heard about the PAN 2.0 project by now. On November 25, 2024, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, led by Prime Minister Modi, gave the green light for this initiative aimed at the Income Tax Department, with a budget of Rs 1,435 crore.

This project is all about going fully digital with the PAN card. We’re not just talking about the digital version you can download from DigiLocker, the Umang app, or via WhatsApp. Instead, you’ll get a physical PAN card that features a QR code, enhancing security and helping to prevent cyber fraud.

So, how will PAN 2.0 come to life?

First, let’s take a quick look back at PAN 1.0, the old PAN card. The Permanent Account Number is crucial for anything related to income. Without it, you can’t really get things done. This 10-digit alphanumeric ID opens doors to loans, credit cards, bank accounts, and tax matters.

Now, PAN 2.0 is the upgrade, complete with a QR code. QR stands for “Quick Response Code,” which can hold up to 7,089 numbers at once—basically, a ton of information. Each user will have a unique number, making it nearly impossible to forge or duplicate. Now, let’s dive into how to get your new card.

1. Search for PAN 2.0 on Google and hit enter.

2. Skip the first link for the Online PAN application and scroll down a bit.

3. You’ll see the PAN Card – utiitsl portal.

4. Look for the option to reprint your PAN Card.

5. Fill in your details accurately on the next page, like your PAN number and Aadhaar number.

6. Pay Rs 50, and a new card will be sent right to your doorstep.
