LPG, PNG Update: If you have an Indane, Bharat Gas, or HP LPG connection, this information is quite important. Oil companies (OMCs) have introduced new and stringent regulations concerning gas booking, delivery, and piped gas (PNG). These changes will impact millions of individuals.

In the meantime, oil companies have released a new advisory encouraging customers to transition from LPG to PMG. With reports of gas shortages, black marketing, and supply challenges in various states, companies have advised customers to remain calm and avoid hoarding extra cylinders.

You won’t be able to get another cylinder quickly now

To combat cylinder black marketing, the government has increased the waiting period between bookings. In urban areas, individuals can only book a second cylinder after 25 days, while rural residents will have to wait 45 days. This means that a new cylinder can only be booked 45 days after the first one is delivered. This regulation applies to both 14.2 kg and 5 kg domestic cylinders.

Delivery will not occur without an OTP

Now, you won’t receive your cylinder right away when the delivery person arrives. To enhance security, OTP-based delivery has become mandatory. When you receive the cylinder, a one-time password will be sent to your registered mobile number, which you must provide to the delivery person. The cylinder will not be delivered until you give the OTP. Therefore, if your number is outdated, please visit the agency immediately to update it.

There is now clarity regarding e-KYC

Biometric Aadhaar authentication is now required for beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). The ministry has also made it clear that this e-KYC process is only necessary for non-PMUY customers who have not completed it yet. If you have already finished your e-KYC, there is no need to worry again.

Will LPG connections be terminated after June?

Considering the ongoing crisis, the government had requested everyone to transition from LPG to PNG by March 2026.
It also said that those who have both LPG and PNG connections should disconnect the LPG connection themselves or else the government will disconnect it. In such a situation, the government is working on the policy of ‘One House, One Gas Connection’. Households that already have PNG (piped natural gas) facility are being asked to surrender the LPG connection. Some media reports are claiming that LPG connections of PNG-based households may be disconnected after June 30, 2026, although the government has not yet issued an official deadline for this.

What did the oil companies say?

Oil companies have clarified that the supply of LPG in the country is completely normal and adequate. There have been reports of black marketing from some states, including Karnataka, which are being strictly monitored. Companies have appealed to customers not to panic-book or stockpile excess cylinders. To promote Digital India, online booking is being encouraged, while PNG, induction cooktops, and electric cooking gas are also being promoted.

These new rules will have the biggest and most direct impact on consumers in urban areas, especially those families who already use piped gas (PNG). Now that the lock-in period for bookings has been extended (25 days) and the OTP system has become mandatory, people will have to plan their kitchen budgets and gas bookings more carefully than before.
