The Delhi government has taken a massive step to help women in the city. With a special card, named Saheli Pink Card, women will able to travel on government buses without spending any ticket. This card will ensure free travel in a government bus. But form where and how you will collect the card?
The Saheli Pink Card will be recognized on Delhi Transport Corporation and cluster buses. Women and transgender passengers will be able to travel on these buses without paying a fare by showing the card. Until now, travel was available with a pink ticket, but now travel will be done using a smart card.
Aim of the government initiative
The Delhi government aims to make public transport more digital and secure with this card. It will include the passenger’s name and photo, confirming their identity. The government believes this will also curb ticket fraud. This card will currently be valid only on DTC and cluster buses operating within Delhi. It will not be used on metro or intercity buses. However, plans are underway to integrate this card with other transit systems in the future. The Saheli Pink Card can be obtained by women over the age of 12 and transgender individuals in Delhi. Applications must be made online through the DTC portal. After applying, KYC will be completed at the selected bank branch.
Bank will issue the card
The card will be issued by that bank. This card must be activated through DTC’s automatic fare collection system before use. Once activated, it can be used on buses. If the card is lost, a replacement card can be obtained from the issuing bank. Let us tell you that the Delhi government has set certain eligibility criteria for this card. Only women who meet these criteria are issued the Saheli Pink Card. A proof of residence in Delhi is required for this.
