Know how the fitment factor is applied?
You should know what the fitment factor is. The fitment factor is a kind of multiplier. The new salary is determined by multiplying the old basic wage. This factor is decided while considering DA, i.e., dearness allowance, and the current economic conditions.
Through this, all employees get an equal and fair increase. At the same time, according to the last few pay commissions, this trend has been seen. Before increasing the salary, DA is added to the basic salary. After this, the fitment factor is applied to the total sum.
Understand the whole thing.
Suppose the Seventh Pay Commission was implemented in the year 2016. At that time, employees were getting the benefit of 125 percent DA. The commission suggested a fitment factor of 2.57. Meanwhile, if someone’s basic salary was 10,000, the 125 percent DA, i.e. 12,500, becomes 22,500. By adding the actual increase of 14.22 percent to this, the new wage was fixed at 25,700.
According to this, the fitment factor = 25,700 / 10,000 = 2.57. This has been the pattern of fitment factor in the reports of previous pay commissions. In the 5th pay commission, DA was around 74 percent. The fitment factor was 1.86. In the 6th pay commission, DA was around 115 percent.
