Toll Tax Update: If you drive a vehicle then this news is very important for you. The Central Government is going to make a big change in the rules of FASTag from August 15, 2025. Under this initiative of the government, a FASTag-based Annual Pass of ₹ 3,000 is being introduced. This pass will be valid for one year from the date of activation or for 200 trips (whichever is earlier).
Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari shared this information on the social media platform and said that this pass is specially designed for non-commercial private vehicles like cars, jeeps, vans, etc. It will make travel possible without any interruption on the National Highways across the country.
How to get an annual pass and its benefits
This new annual pass is a big relief for those who often travel on the National Highway, especially those who live near toll plazas that fall within a 60 km radius of their home.
A separate link will be available soon.
The Union Minister also informed that a separate link will soon be made available on the Highway Travel App and NHAI / Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) websites to activate or renew the annual pass, making the process simple and easy. He said that this policy will address the long-standing concerns related to toll plazas located within a radius of 60 km and will facilitate toll payment through an easy transaction. This means that now you will get rid of the hassle of paying tolls again and again.
What is FASTag?
FASTag is a device that uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. It enables toll payments directly from the prepaid account linked to it. It is affixed on the windscreen of your vehicle and helps you pass through toll plazas without stopping for cash transactions. You need to recharge/top up this tag as per your requirement.
Other key benefits of FASTag
There are many other benefits of using FASTag. On using it, the customer gets SMS alerts on their registered mobile number for all transactions made in their tag account. The customer does not have to worry about carrying cash for toll payments. Customers can recharge their tag account online through debit card or net banking. Apart from this, customers can also check their statements by logging into the FASTag Customer Portal.
