FASTag New Update: Nowadays, using FASTag has become mandatory for every vehicle. Its main purpose is to make toll payments easy and seamless. However, drivers sometimes face sudden problems at toll plazas because their FASTag has been blacklisted. People often think that FASTag is only blacklisted when the balance runs out, but the reality is different. Several small mistakes can also lead to your FASTag being blocked.
What Does FASTag Blacklisting Mean?
When your FASTag is blacklisted, it is temporarily deactivated. This means that toll payments cannot be made using it. This status is usually indicated by the bank or the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). The system signals that there is a problem with the account or FASTag that needs to be resolved.

Low Balance: The Most Common Reason
The most common reason for a FASTag being blacklisted is insufficient balance in the wallet. If there isn’t a minimum balance and you continuously cross toll plazas, the system may block the FASTag. Many people think they will recharge later, but doing so can immediately lead to the FASTag being blacklisted.
Incomplete or Expired KYC
According to NHAI rules, complete and valid KYC is mandatory for FASTag. If the KYC is incomplete or has expired, the bank or FASTag service provider may blacklist it. This is a common reason that people often overlook.
More Than One FASTag on a Vehicle
Under the “One Vehicle, One FASTag” rule, there should only be one FASTag per vehicle. Sometimes people get a new FASTag but don’t disable the old one. This can cause discrepancies in the system regarding the vehicle number and lead to the FASTag being blacklisted.

Incorrect Vehicle Category FASTag
Every FASTag is issued for a specific vehicle category, such as car, SUV, or commercial vehicle. If a FASTag issued for one category of vehicle is used on a vehicle of a different category, it will be considered a violation of the rules, and the FASTag may be blocked.
Tampering with or Damaged FASTag
If a FASTag is removed from one vehicle and attached to another, or if it is tampered with, or if it is affixed incorrectly, it can also lead to blacklisting. Additionally, if the FASTag is torn, damaged, or the scanner is unable to read it, the system may temporarily block it.
How to Avoid FASTag Blacklisting
There are some simple steps you can take to prevent your FASTag from being blocked. Always maintain sufficient balance in your wallet. Complete and update your KYC details on time. Use only one FASTag per vehicle. Use the correct FASTag according to your vehicle category and affix it correctly in the designated location. By following these guidelines, you can avoid unexpected problems at toll plazas.
