Milk Price: Another major shock for common people. Milk has become more expensive in many parts of Madhya Pradesh, with prices rising by Rs 2 to Rs 4 per liter since April 1. According to the Madhya Pradesh Milk Vendors Federation, this increase, which coincides with new changes in fuel and energy rates, has been observed in cities like Indore,Ujjain,Bhopal, and Jabalpur.
The new rates came into effect on the first day of the new financial year. Vendors in Indore reported that loose milk, which previously sold for Rs 60 per liter, now costs Rs 63 per liter. Similar increases have been observed in other cities, depending on local supply and demand conditions. This increase primarily applies to loose milk, which is widely consumed in urban and semi-urban households.
Milk vendors said the decision was made due to seasonal challenges and rising costs. Bharat Mathurawala, president of the Madhya Pradesh Milk Vendors Federation, said,“The shortage of green fodder during the summer season and the increase in the cost of animal feed forced us to raise milk prices. Cattle’s milk production capacity decreases in the summer anyway.”
Fuel and LPG costs
This increase in milk prices comes at a time when energy costs have also risen since April 1. Commercial LPG cylinders and small refill packs have become more expensive in major cities. In Delhi, the price of a 19-kilogram commercial LPG cylinder has increased by approximately Rs 200,while the price of a 5-kilogram small refill cylinder has also seen a significant increase. Commercial LPG rates have increased even more sharply in Kolkata. However, domestic cooking gas prices have remained unchanged and remain at the levels previously revised in March.
ATF prices hiked
Additionally, aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices have risen in metro cities, with Delhi,Kolkata,Mumbai, and Chennai all reporting higher rates. This surge in ATF prices has also impacted airlines, especially those flying international routes, where fuel costs have risen sharply. Officials have attributed these changes to global factors, including high crude oil prices and tensions in West Asia, which have disrupted key supply routes. The government maintains that supplies are stable.
