FASTag New Rule From Today, Relief for Users as Verification Process Gets Easier

FASTag Rules: The second month of 2026 has begun today. The month has begun with many major changes, and the most significant of these is regarding FASTag. Effective today, February 1, 2026, the NHAI (National Highway Authority of India) has made a significant change to a key rule related to FASTag. If you also use FASTag, let us tell you which rule has been changed.

Car owners have now been relieved by eliminating the hassle of repeated KYC verification for FASTags. With this change, the entire responsibility will now rest with the banks that issue FASTags. Banks will now be required to thoroughly verify the vehicle and its owner before issuing a FASTag.

NHAI has stopped the KYC process

This means that once your FASTag is activated, you won’t need any additional KYC verification. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has discontinued the ‘Know Your Vehicle’ process for issuing new FASTags. According to report, the government release said that this improvement will provide great relief to lakhs of people who were facing problems and delays due to KYV requirements after FASTag activation, even though they had the correct vehicle documents.

For previously issued FASTags for cars, KYV will no longer be required as a regular requirement. KYV will only be required in specific cases where complaints are received, such as loose FASTags, incorrect issuance, or misuse. In the absence of complaints, KYV will not be required for existing car FASTags.
