EPFO Update – The Central Government has launched a scheme, the Employee Enrollment Scheme, bringing good news to PF employees. It was launched on the occasion of the 73rd Foundation Day of the EPFO. The objective of the scheme is to promote social security for employees.

According to the Ministry of Labour and Employment, this scheme will be beneficial for employees who are currently excluded from the social security system. There may be confusion about who will benefit from the Employee Enrollment Scheme. Important updates related to this scheme can be found in the news below. This will also alleviate any confusion among employees.

What is the Employee Enrollment Scheme?

Under the Employee Enrollment Scheme, the Central Government has allowed employers to enrol eligible employees under the EPF ambit who, for some reason, were excluded from this coverage between July 1, 2017, and October 31, 2025. Most importantly, the Employee Enrollment Scheme will be effective for six months, meaning it will remain open until April 30, 2026. The question arises: who is eligible for this scheme?

Who is eligible for the scheme?

The Employee Enrollment Scheme is expected to be a promising one. Under this scheme, all establishments, whether currently covered by EPF or not, can declare any employee hired between July 1, 2017, and October 31, 2025, through the EPFO portal.

According to the Union Labour Ministry, if employee contributions have not been deducted previously for such employees, employee contributions are waived for that period. The company will be required to deposit its share of the contribution, interest (under Section 7Q), administrative fees, and a penalty of ₹100. The one-time penalty of ₹100 will remain applicable for all three EPF schemes.

New Portal Launched

Meanwhile, the Labour Ministry has launched the new EPFO homepage. Its domain name is now www.epfo.gov.in. At the same time, the new portal has also been designed with a more user-friendly interface, better navigation and easy access to key services and information.
