If you are wondering what the employment situation in the country is, then great news has come from EPFO. In June 2025, a new record of members joining EPFO was set. About 22 lakh new people have got jobs in the organized sector. This figure has come in just one month, and it is a huge sign for youth, women, and the Indian economy. Let us know about the special aspects of this report.

22 lakh people got job

The Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has set a new record by adding 21.89 lakh new members in the month of June 2025. This is the largest figure since payroll data tracking started in April 2018. This is an increase of 9.14% compared to May 2025, while there has been a wild increase of 13.46% in jobs compared to June 2024 last year. This month, 10.62 lakh people joined EPFO for the first time, which is a big figure in itself.

Why are people joining again

EPFO data also shows that people who had left their jobs earlier are returning to the formal sector. About 16.93 lakh people rejoined EPFO in June 2025. This number is 19.65% more than last year. This means that instead of withdrawing the entire PF money after leaving the job, people are preferring to transfer it to their new account. This shows the strength of the organized sector and the confidence of the people.

Women and youth are coming forward

This report has also made it clear that the participation of women in India’s workforce is increasing rapidly. In the month of June, 3.02 lakh women got formal jobs, which is 14.92% more than in May and 10.29% more than last year.

The number of youth among the new members is also surprising. More than 60% of the total new members, i.e., about 6.39 lakh members, are between 18 and 25 years of age. This shows that most of the new people are young and are working for the first time.

How many jobs are in which state

61.51% of the total jobs created in the country have come from five states alone. These states are performing strongly in terms of employment generation. Among these states, Maharashtra contributes 20.03%, Karnataka 10.65%, Tamil Nadu 9.87%, Gujarat 9.78% and Haryana 7.98%.

Talking about the sector, most jobs have been created in the areas of ‘expert services’ such as manpower supply, security service, school-college, and engineering products.

What is Payroll Data System

Payroll Data System is a software that collects and manages data such as salary, tax, benefits, and leave of employees. EPFO started releasing this data from April 2018, which includes data from September 2017. It calculates the net payroll for each month by counting new members joining EPFO for the first time, members leaving the job, and members rejoining.
