What is EPF, and how does it work

The Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) is a social security scheme run by the central government. Its primary objective is to protect against future financial crises. It is based on your basic salary. Every month, a fixed contribution from both you and your employer is deposited in the EPFO in your name. This amount continues to grow with interest. You can withdraw it upon retirement or a job change. Now, this scheme is not limited to retirement; you can also make partial withdrawals if needed.
Essential Requirements for EPF Withdrawal
Before withdrawing EPF funds, you need to ensure a few important things: Your UAN must be active. Your bank account must be linked to your PF account. Your Aadhaar and PAN numbers must be updated on the EPFO portal. Your mobile number must be linked to Aadhaar to receive OTPs. If all these details are correct, withdrawals will be extremely easy.
Complete Process for Online Claiming for ATM Withdrawals
Withdrawing funds from an ATM means that money will be credited to your bank account, which you can then withdraw through an ATM. This entire process is done online.

First, visit the official EPFO portal https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface/ and log in using your UAN and password.
After logging in, go to ‘Online Services’ in the menu and select the ‘Claim’ option.
Here, your bank account linked to your PF will appear. If the details are correct, click ‘Proceed for Online Claim’.
Now select the ‘PF Advance’ option. Here, you’ll need to provide the reason for the withdrawal, such as a medical emergency, marriage, education, house construction, etc. Then, enter the amount to be withdrawn.
In some cases, a scanned copy of your bank passbook or canceled check may be required. Ensure the documents are clear and correct.
Now click ‘Get Aadhaar OTP’. An OTP will be sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number. Enter it and submit your application.
Withdraw money via ATM or online
Once your application is submitted, an EPFO official will verify it. If everything is found to be correct, the money will be transferred to your linked bank account within 3 to 7 days. Once the money is credited to the bank account, you can withdraw it by transferring it through ATM card, net banking, or mobile banking, or even withdraw cash directly from the bank.
