Delhi Traffic Rules
New Delhi: To ensure that no one violates traffic rules, the government is formulating stringent regulations. Often, negligence regarding traffic rules leads to tragic accidents, in which people even end up losing their lives. Are you aware that a major step has been taken toward initiating strict action against those who violate traffic laws? This initiative has been undertaken by the Delhi Government.
The Delhi Government has established new rules to streamline the traffic management system in the national capital and to address those who flout regulations. This information was shared by the Delhi Chief Minister’s office via social media. According to the new rules, if drivers violate traffic regulations, their driving licenses will be cancelled. Furthermore, it will be mandatory for you to settle your traffic challan (fine) within a period of one and a half months—that is, within 45 days.
Within How Many Days Must a Challan Be Settled?
According to a post shared on the official ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) account of the Delhi Chief Minister’s Office, significant reforms have been implemented by the Delhi Government—under the leadership of CM Rekha Gupta—to make the traffic management system more transparent, accountable, and effective. The Delhi Government has introduced these crucial changes with a primary focus on road safety.
Under these new regulations, if an individual receives a traffic challan, they are required to settle it within 45 days. If an individual fails to settle the challan within this 45-day window and delays payment, services related to their driving license and vehicle’s Registration Certificate (RC) may be temporarily suspended. The vehicle owner will have to bear the consequences of such non-compliance.
Driving License May Be Suspended for Violating Rules 5 Times Within a Year
According to the new traffic rules, if a challan is not contested within the stipulated timeframe, it will be deemed automatically accepted. For individuals wishing to contest a challan, an online facility has also been provided. The government has clarified that a challan can initially be challenged through the online portal.
However, if the matter remains unresolved after an online challenge, you will also have the option to contest the challan by appearing in court. Furthermore, if any individual violates traffic rules five times within a single year, their driving license may also be suspended under such circumstances.
