Driving License Process: A major change has been made to the rules for obtaining a driving license (DL). You will no longer need to go to the Regional Transport Office (RTO) to take the test. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has officially announced this change, which will come into effect on June 1, 2024. Under this, you can take the test at your nearest private driving training center or driving school.
Private Training Centers Will Now Issue Certificates
According to the new rules, driving tests will now be conducted only at private training centers. All these centers will be authorized by the government and will issue a driving certificate after passing the test. This will eliminate the need to visit the RTO and simplify the process significantly.
Strict Action Against Minors Driving
Anyone caught driving without a driver’s license will be subject to a heavy fine. Furthermore, if a minor is caught driving, strict action will be taken against their parents, and a fine of ₹25,000 will be issued. Additionally, the card of a minor registered in a vehicle may be revoked. A minor caught driving under the influence will not receive a driver’s license until the age of 25.

9 Lakh Old Vehicles to be Removed from the Roads
Under the new rules, the documentation process for obtaining a license has been significantly simplified. This will ensure whether the vehicle is a two-wheeler or four-wheeler, reducing the need for physical inspections at the RTO. Furthermore, to reduce rising pollution, a decision has been made to remove 9 lakh old government vehicles from cities. This will be implemented in a phased manner to keep roads clean and safe.
