National Food Security Act (NFSA): In a significant move for food security, the Rajasthan government has given the District Collector the authority to add eligible beneficiaries and remove those who don’t qualify under the National Food Security Act (NFSA). This change will enable quicker and more efficient actions at the district level, ensuring that more eligible individuals can take advantage of the available schemes.
District Collector can handle the inclusion and exclusion of names
Now, the District Collector can handle the inclusion and exclusion of names on the food security list directly. The state government has issued a notification and updated the rules accordingly. Food and Civil Supplies Minister Sumit Godara mentioned that the government aims to connect all eligible individuals with welfare programs. As part of this effort, the District Collector is now empowered to add new beneficiaries to the NFSA and remove those who are ineligible.
District Collector to add names to the food security list independently
Godara pointed out that during night choupals and public hearings, many deserving applicants approach the District Collector, appearing eligible for food security but unable to benefit from the NFSA due to previous limitations. To address this, the decision was made to allow the District Collector to add names to the food security list independently.
District Collector can now issue orders to add or remove names based on eligibility criteria
This means the District Collector can now issue orders to add or remove names based on eligibility criteria, either on their own initiative or upon receiving an application. Godara emphasized that this new authority will make the process more effective and transparent, significantly reducing the chances of eligible individuals missing out on food security benefits.
