During the verification campaign running since October last year, it was found that a large number of illegal foreign nationals, such as Bangladeshis and Rohingyas, were falsely claiming Indian citizenship using Aadhaar and ration cards. According to a Hindustan Times report, the police officer stated that many illegal immigrants possessed Aadhaar cards, ration cards, and PAN cards.
Due to these, it has become tough to identify Indian citizens. Therefore, taking a significant step, the voter ID cards or Indian passports have been made mandatory.

Delhi Police has given strict instructions to the DCPS of all its districts. DCPS have been instructed to increase surveillance on suspicious persons in their areas. The officer said that the campaign against illegal immigrants will continue till the work of sending every person back is done.
Delhi Police has also intensified action against Pakistanis living in the capital. About 3500 Pakistani citizens reside in Delhi. About 520 of them are Muslims. More than 400 have returned to Pakistan via the Attari border.
