Today there is great news for the residents of Delhi! The Delhi Cabinet today approved an additional subsidy of ₹ 30,000 for installing 3 kW solar panels on the roofs of houses. Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa confirmed this and said, “In an important cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, an additional subsidy of ₹ 10,000 per kilowatt has been approved for the people of Delhi, which will be a total of ₹ 30,000.”
This is a revolutionary step of the Delhi government, which will play an important role in taking the capital towards green energy and providing relief from electricity bills. Let us tell you that the central government also gives a subsidy of up to ₹ 78,000 for installing solar panels on the roofs of houses under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana.
A total subsidy of ₹1,08,000 will be available on a 3 kW solar panel
With this historic decision of the Delhi government, the people of Delhi will now get a huge subsidy of ₹1,08,000 on installing 3 kW solar panels! This total subsidy includes a subsidy of ₹78,000 given by the Central Government and an additional subsidy of ₹30,000 from the Delhi Government.

Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa also said that the government will partner with banks so that people can easily get loans for the cost of installing solar panels. He said that due to this people will not have to spend money from their pocket and they will be able to save ₹4200 every month. This will not only help in environmental protection but will also provide economic relief to the citizens.
The subsidy is available only on solar panels of a maximum of 3 kW
It is important to know that the subsidy limit has been fixed under Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana. Under this scheme, 60% of the cost of installing solar panels up to 2 kW and 40% of the additional cost for solar systems of 2 to 3 kW capacity is provided as a subsidy. This limit of subsidy is limited to 3 kW capacity.
This simply means that the subsidy to be given to the beneficiaries will be as follows:
For 1 kW Solar: ₹ 30,000 subsidy
For 2 kW Solar: ₹ 60,000 subsidy
For 3 kW Solar: ₹ 78,000 subsidy
And now with the additional subsidy of ₹ 30,000 from the Delhi government, the total benefit on 3 kW will be ₹ 1,08,000.
Benefits of solar energy and the way forward

Using solar energy not only reduces your electricity bill, but it is also a great boon for the environment. It helps in reducing carbon emissions and fighting climate change. This move of the Delhi government reflects its commitment to renewable energy and will set an example for other states as well. This scheme is an important step towards energy independence, where every household can generate its electricity.
How to apply and what are the next steps
The Delhi government has not yet released a detailed description of the application process for this additional subsidy, but it is expected to be announced soon. Usually, applications for such schemes are made through the Surya Ghar Portal of the central government or through the local offices of DISCOM.
Citizens are advised to keep an eye on the official websites of the Delhi government and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. The availability of a loan facility from the bank will also make this scheme more accessible, allowing more and more people to take advantage of it.
