CGHS New Rule

Before the new rule came, it was necessary to upload geo-tagged photos of IPD patients daily. The government abolished this rule and said that this rule will not be implemented from the date on which the order came till the date of the new order. This means that no action will be taken for not uploading photos for this time.

What will the hospitals have to do now?

Now that the documents of those patients whose photos were not uploaded earlier will be uploaded again on the TMS portal, then the hospitals will have to attach a copy of the new order along with it.

What are the new rules?

  1. IPD referral cases (where the patient has been referred and the referral is valid). No photo is required.
  2. IPD non-referral cases (where the patient has not been referred).
  3. One photo was taken at the time of admission.
  4. One photo was taken at the time of discharge.
  5. If the patient is admitted for more than 7 days, then an additional photo will be required every 7th day.

If it is an OPD case

  • No photo will have to be given in referral cases.
  • Non-referral cases.
  • For patients above 70 years of age.
  • Follow-up related to referral in which no new referral has been taken.
  • For patients who cannot get up from bed, even the screenshot of a video call will not be valid.
  • A geo-tagged photo is necessary in all these.

What are the rules for uploading photos?

  1. The photo should be taken from a mobile or tablet that does automatic geo-tagging.
  2. The photo should not be larger than 1 MB.
  3. The photo has to be uploaded in real time within 24 hours.
  4. Hospitals have to keep a local copy of all the photos for at least 90 days, so that they can show them during the audit.
