New Delhi: The central government has taken a big decision and given good news to the central employees. According to the Union Finance Ministry, on Monday, it was announced to give the facility of choosing the option of NPS to UPS employees once. By the way, the central government had launched UPS in the break of NPS, which was implemented from 1 April 2025.
Employees are also guaranteed payment from UPS. According to a report, a large number of central employees are leaving NPS and choosing UPS. The last date for enrollment for this scheme has been fixed as 30 September 2025. As of 20 July 2025, about 31,555 central employees have also opted for UPS.

Important things related to UPS and NPS
According to the Union Finance Ministry, a memorandum said that the facility to switch from UPS to NPS will be available to such central employees who have opted for UPS. Along with this, this facility can be comfortably availed by the beneficiaries of UPS one year before the date of retirement or three months before the valid retirement date in case of voluntary retirement.
Along with this, the government has decided to increase the benefits of ‘retirement gratuity and death gratuity’ under UPS. Government employees who opt for UPS will also be eligible to get benefits under the CCA (Pension) Rules, 2021 or the CCS (Extraordinary Pension) Rules, 2023.
