Highway New Update: If you are driving on the highway, be careful now. The government has made a new rule under which certain vehicles will be targeted. The police will be keeping a close watch on them. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has issued new strict guidelines to prevent accidents during foggy weather. Under these guidelines, the speed of vehicles will not be allowed to exceed 30 km per hour.
The NHAI has directed the police and highway operators to form special teams for regular patrolling and to provide drivers with mobile numbers and instruction booklets at toll plazas. This will allow drivers to directly send information about which routes have heavy fog, so that vehicles following behind can be alerted.

Guidelines must be followed
The NHAI’s instructions were issued on November 27, 2025, and all authorities have been ordered to comply by December 27, 2025. If the operators do not comply on time, the NHAI may take action against them. Strict adherence to the Indian Road Congress guidelines is mandatory on national highways, including Lucknow, Kanpur, Sitapur, Raebareli, Ayodhya, Hardoi, and Sultanpur.
Police are vigilant regarding road safety
To prevent accidents, the NHAI has instructed that reflectors be installed on roadside barriers and medians. Road engineering improvements and adequate lighting should be provided at black spots. High-mast lights should be installed at a distance of two meters in urban areas and five meters in rural areas. Safety measures should be implemented in construction zones and diversions, such as solar studs, road studs, barricades, and solar blinkers.

Emphasis on lighting arrangements
Lighting arrangements should be switched on well in advance during foggy and nighttime conditions. High-mast lights of 25 meters height should be installed at the beginning of the viaducts. Solar-powered safety warning lights (solar studs) should be installed on small bridges, ROBs (Road Over Bridges), and ramps. Use reflective tape across the full width of the vehicle on the highway; white is designated for the front and red for the rear.
