The central government has shared data in the Lok Sabha about the success of this scheme. So far, more than 2 lakh women have joined it.

Under this scheme, women can earn up to ₹7,000 every month. This special scheme of the central government, started to empower women, is proving very successful. More than 2 lakh women are earning every month by joining the Bima Sakhi Scheme. Through this LIC scheme, women are getting a golden chance to build a better career as insurance agents. According to the central government, 2.05 lakh women are taking benefit of this scheme, which was launched on 9 December 2024.

Minister of State for Finance, Pankaj Chaudhary, gave an update on the Bima Sakhi Scheme in a written reply in the Lok Sabha. He said that in the financial year 2024-25, ₹62.36 crore was paid to the Bima Sakhis. For the financial year 2025-26, LIC (Life Insurance Corporation of India) has set a budget of ₹520 crore, out of which ₹115.13 crore has already been paid till 14 July.

What is Bima Sakhi Yojana?

Under the Bima Sakhi Yojana, women who become LIC insurance agents not only earn commission on selling policies, but also get a monthly stipend for the first three years. In the first year, they get ₹7,000 per month, in the second year ₹6,000 per month, and in the third year ₹5,000 per month.

Not Just Money, But a Permanent Job Too

Women Bima Sakhis who are graduates and have completed five years in the scheme can apply for the post of Apprentice Development Officer (ADO). Women who perform well are also given extra incentives.

The Bima Sakhi Yojana is an effort by the central government to increase women’s participation in the workforce and improve their financial condition.

10th Pass Can Also Apply

The Bima Sakhi Yojana, also called the Bima Sakhi Scheme, is open to women between 18 and 70 years of age. Even women who have passed at least the 10th class can join. Selected women get special training and a monthly allowance for the first three years, which helps them start their career as LIC agents.

However, women who are already relatives of LIC agents or employees are not allowed to join. The selection process is kept fair. LIC has also signed an agreement with the Ministry of Rural Development to promote the Bima Sakhi Yojana in rural areas.
