The Bihar government has taken an unprecedented and historic decision towards making the women of the state self-reliant and empowered. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s government has officially approved the “Chief Minister Mahila Rojgar Yojana”. Giving information about this on the social media platform X, the Chief Minister himself said that this is an “unprecedented decision”, which will have “positive, far-reaching results”. This scheme can prove to be a milestone for women’s empowerment in Bihar.

What is ‘Chief Minister Mahila Rojgar Yojana’

The main and simple objective of this scheme is to provide direct financial assistance to at least one woman from every family of Bihar to start employment or a small business of her choice. This is a comprehensive scheme, which will benefit women from all families of the state. This scheme provides a unique opportunity for women to stand on their feet and strengthen their financial condition.

How to get financial assistance

The government has designed a very simple and effective model to assist.

First installment of ₹10,000

Under the scheme, all eligible women will be given an amount of ₹10,000 as the first installment to start their work. This money will be sent directly to the bank accounts of women through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), and it will start from September 2025.

Additional assistance up to ₹2 lakh

This is the most powerful aspect of this scheme. When the woman starts her employment, after 6 months, the government will evaluate her work. If needed, she can also be given additional assistance of up to ₹2 lakh to take her work further. This assistance will give women a chance to take their business to a larger scale.

Application process and government help

The government has informed that the process of taking applications from interested women will start soon. The Rural Development Department will be responsible for implementing this scheme and managing its entire process. For urban areas, the Department of Urban Development and Housing will also cooperate in this.

The government will not stop at just giving money, but will also help in selling the products made by women. Special Haat markets will be developed for the sale of women’s products from village to city in the state, so that they can get a good market for their goods. The government will also promote women’s products through online marketplace and government procurement.

This scheme will not only make women self-reliant but will also create better employment opportunities in the state itself, so that people will not be forced to go out for work.
