Big relief for farmer’s. This year, heavy rains have wreaked havoc in many areas of the country. These include Punjab, Bihar, Maharashtra, and Jammu and Kashmir. Farmers in these areas have been most affected by heavy rains and floods. Meanwhile, Maharashtra’s Agriculture Minister has announced major relief to affected farmers before Diwali. Agriculture Minister Dattatraya Bharane has announced that farmers affected by heavy rains will be compensated before Diwali.
70 acres of crops destroyed due to rain
He said that recent heavy rains have damaged crops on approximately 7 million acres across the state, and topsoil has been washed away in many areas. Vidarbha suffered the most damage, followed by Marathwada. However, rain is still continuing in some parts of Maharashtra.
Compensation will be received soon
Farmers whose damage assessments (panchnama) have been completed have already been compensated. Meanwhile, surveys are being expedited to provide immediate relief to the remaining farmers. Mr. Bharane emphasized that assistance will be provided to everyone as soon as possible, in accordance with the criteria set by the state and central governments.
At the same time, the central government is also taking several steps to provide relief to flood-affected farmers. On Friday, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced in Jammu and Kashmir that a package would soon be released by the central government to compensate farmers for the losses incurred due to recent rains.
PM Kisan installment will also be released first
Additionally, preparations are underway to release the next installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM-KISAN) soon. Earlier this month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Himachal Pradesh and Punjab, both states grappling with severe flooding. Following his visit, PM Modi assured farmers in these areas of the next installment of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme. It is expected that farmers in flood- and rain-affected states like Maharashtra, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh will receive the next installment before those in other states.
